British golf sensation Charley Hull just missed out on winning her first title of the 2025 season after finishing in second place this past weekend, admitting the failure to capture the top spot ‘stings’.

Hull put together a sensational few rounds at the AIG Women’s Open in Wales, but finished two shots off the lead, unable to bring in her first win of the year as she just missed out on her first major. Hull has now finished second in four majors over the course of her career so far.

The 29-year-old had been in contention to steal the top spot from eventual winner Miyu Yamashita all the way through the final round, before bogeys on the 16 and 17th holes saw her dream come to an end.

It had been another incredible performance from the star, but she admitted the pain of failing to win once again had affected her afterwards.

Speaking to GOLF.com, Hull said: “Towards the end, I didn’t even hit a bad shot on 16. I hit a perfect tee shot, and just the wind was howling off the left and didn’t even move it like an inch, like I hit it so pure. It was a bit unfortunate.

“Then on 17, missing that putt. I hit a good putt right on the line. And then shame about 18 because I had a pretty hard chip over the bunker, and I’d done pretty well just to get it there.

“Yeah, it was a bit unfortunate, but I felt like I was very much in control of my game today. I don’t feel like I mishit any shots out there. I hit it pretty pure all day.”

Taking to her social media platforms, she added: “There’s nothing like the adrenaline of being in the mix on a Sunday. It’s why I love this game. Felt so in control out there. Hit it pure and gave it everything.

“It stings to come up short, but after day one I’m proud of myself for climbing the leaderboard like I did and being the bridesmaid again. Thank you @royal_porthcawl, you were such a tough test but what an awesome course. @aigwomensopen and @therandagolf, you continue to deliver this world class event and elevate our game. We wouldn’t be doing what we do without your vision.

“To the fans, you were unbelievable. I had goosebumps out there yesterday with the cheers. I’m grateful for this journey and everyone who is part of it. We move on.”

American star Christian Kim was impressed with what she saw from Hull, believing that it’s only a matter of time before she begins to capture multiple majors.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ broadcast, she said: “Hopefully this will do nothing but inspire her and to give her the true sense that yeah, you absolutely can do this. There’s no reason why you can’t by the end of your career win four, five, six backed up underneath your belt.”
