At the 2018 Wyndham Championship, Brandt Snedeker delivered one of the most electrifying rounds in PGA Tour history, shooting a brilliant 59 that stunned fans and ignited his wife Mandy’s world in Nashville. With nine PGA Tour wins, Brandt recently earned himself Team USA captain duties at the 2026 Presidents Cup.
It was an ordinary Thursday morning as Mandy dropped their kids, Lily and Austin, off at school near Nashville. As she ran errands, she tracked Brandt’s group, paired with Billy Horschel, who slammed a recent decision made by the R&A at The Open Championship, and Hideki Matsuyama.
“And then all of a sudden, I don’t know what hole it was, but they started mentioning that there was a chance that he could shoot 59,” Mandy recalls. She parked in a lot and settled in to watch the final holes on her phone.
Sure enough, on the back nine at Sedgefield Country Club, Brandt was rolling. He nailed a 20-foot birdie putt on the ninth hole — the 18th of the day — to become just the ninth player in PGA Tour history at the time to shoot 59 with full broadcast coverage.
“Oh, my gosh, I screamed and just went crazy,” Mandy says. The cheers echoed in her head long after the round ended.
Minutes later, Mandy’s phone was lighting up. “We have a lot of friends that are in the music industry … and obviously are huge golfers,” she said. “I was texting people all morning. Brandt shot 59. Brandt shot 59. It was crazy.” Her first message, however, went to Brandt himself. Shortly after submitting his scorecard, he called — ecstatic.
Brandt’s reaction was equally raw. “He was so excited,” Mandy recalls. “You know, golf, it’s crazy. It’s like up and down and he hadn’t been playing that great. But out of nowhere he shoots 59. So, it’s just how the sport rolls.”
The challenge that followed might have felt even more demanding than the round itself. Brandt headed into a round-one lead, massive buzz, and a four-stroke cushion, but still had three days of professional golf to grind through.

“You can’t really think of anything other than messing it up from there,” he admitted. “You have to try to get back into what made you successful that first day.”
Meanwhile, for the Snedeker family, a new pressure came into play. That weekend marked the first time their kids, who were 7 and 5 years old at the time, fully grasped their dad’s golf exploits.
“The second he shot 59 it was, ‘Dad are you going to win the tournament?’ Mandy recalls smiling. “Dad, are you leading still? Are you going to win? I was like, oh my goodness. Stop.”
Adding to the memorable story: Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Brandt’s longtime sponsor, sent a private jet to Nashville to bring Mandy and the kids to Greensboro.
That personal gesture turned what was already a headline-making round into a family highlight reel. On Sunday, Lily and Austin raced onto the 18th green to embrace their father as he hoisted the champion’s trophy. “It was a storybook setting,” Mandy said.
Brandt Snedeker would go on to win the tournament, finishing at 21-under and cementing one of the most unforgettable rounds in modern golf lore.
