Netflix has just unveiled the first official trailer for The Ritual 2025: BLOODROOT, a chilling standalone sequel to the 2017 cult horror hit The Ritual. Starring Florence Pugh and Rebecca Ferguson, the film promises a deeply atmospheric blend of folk horror, psychological dread, and ancient myth.
Set in the remote Carpathian Mountains, Bloodroot follows a team of botanists and historians who uncover a forgotten trail once believed to lead to a sacred pagan shrine. But their journey spirals into terror as they become prey to a forest spirit that feeds not on flesh—but memory and grief.
The trailer opens with breathtaking shots of vast, mist-covered forests and pagan stone altars, quickly unraveling into unsettling imagery: a tree bleeding from its roots, a woman whispering backwards, and a horned silhouette standing at dusk. “It doesn’t want your body,” a voice says, “It wants your story.”
Directed by Ari Aster, the film combines arthouse visual style with primal fear. Florence Pugh plays Dr. Eliza Monroe, a grief-stricken researcher, while Rebecca Ferguson portrays Catherine Varga, a woman whose past trauma may hold the key to surviving the curse.
With its slow-burn tension, ancestral mythology, and unnerving visuals, The Ritual: Bloodroot is shaping up to be one of the year’s most talked-about horror thrillers.
The film premieres globally on October 31, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
