Amanda Balionis shared a remarkable admission about Tommy Fleetwood as she spoke to the PGA Tour star during the Travelers Championship.

Fleetwood (-16) currently is sitting atop the leaderboard after the third round, and if he can maintain his level of play, he would win his first PGA event, despite already raking in $28 million. He and his wife Claire also have been navigating the spotlight, with the couple’s 23-year age gap making waves.

As Fleetwood continues his run at TPC River Highlands, Balionis revealed an honest comment he had made to her before the tournament As the two spoke on the Brit’s success thus far, Balionis admitted that Fleetwood told her he had “lost” his swing after a difficult experience in the U.S. Open.

Balionis said: “It’s funny. I asked you what you were working on coming into this week and you said, ‘I felt like I lost my swing last week so I’ve been grinding’. Talk about that transition from a difficult golf course, in difficult conditions, how you get your head right coming into a week like this?”.

“Yeah, last week was really disappointing for me,” he said. “I felt like I’d done, felt like my game was in really good shape going into it. I’d done a lot of good work and just, I mean like it’s easy for any of us to get into like bad habits, if you like, like habits that we would creep into, everybody’s got their tendencies.

“Mine, I honestly, the range last week was a bit of a down slope and the wind was down off the left and I know I started toppling in my backswing, falling forwards, losing my timing from the top and Oakmont’s not a place you want to be when it’s not, when you’ve not got everything that you need, but you know, you learn from those things.

“I think the good thing is that we knew what I needed to put right. I worked hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as well and you know, so far it’s been very, very good like seeing long game stats like that. When you’re playing, you obviously, you know, you feel pretty comfortable out there.

“Like I was happy, you know, looking at some of the shots before hitting them and I felt good about it, but to see the numbers and the stats like that is nice to see.”

For the 34-year-old, winning at TPC River Highlands would give him his first PGA Tour win, along with the $3.6 million purse to add to his record-$28 million career winnings. He will have to hold off Keegan Bradley and Russell Henley, however, who enter the final round just three back of Fleetwood.

Knowing there will be a tough round ahead of him, Fleetwood shared his thoughts as he looks to raise a tour trophy for the first time in his career.

When asked by Balionis if his win will be determined by his putting, Fleetwood explained it would come down to many things, not one particular aspect.

“It’ll come down to a bunch of things, really,” the 34-year-old surmised. “I think, and honestly, I’ve been saying this for a while, actually this year, I haven’t been in contention much at all. I’ve been on like the outskirts, if you like. I’ve been like that fraction, just, you know, Torrey Pines, I was like really close to being in contention, couldn’t quite get there.

Always like my best finishes, I’ve been just outside of being in contention, but like really close. So actually putting myself there, being in the last group tomorrow, really happy with that. And yeah, just go out – it’s all a learning experience no matter what, but yeah, I’ve been here plenty of times.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m happy with the work that I’ve done and I’m happy that I’ve bounced back for the first three days of this tournament from last weekend. It’s just an amazing opportunity for me to go out and enjoy it tomorrow and play and hopefully it’s our time.”
