Nelly Korda lifts lid on Happy Gilmore 2 shooting and surprise cameo

Nelly Korda is one of the best golfers in the world, and she is set to make an appearance in Happy Gilmore 2 which features a star-studded cast ahead of its anticipated release on Netflix

Nelly Korda admitted meeting Adam Sandler to film Happy Gilmore 2 was “so fun” ahead of her cameo.

After just missing out to Maja Stark in the Women’s U.S. Open, Korda is one of several star names to enjoy a cameo in the highly-anticipated sequel to the classic 1996 golf comedy. Alongside Sandler, returning stars such as Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen, Allen Covert, Dennis Dugan and Christopher McDonald each reprise their roles.

Eminem, Travis Kelce, and Rory McIlroy are also appearing, along with Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, who is a caddie on the green. Korda is also included, and she enjoyed her day of filming.

“It was just a day,” Korda said. “It was so much fun.

“Got to do it alongside Nancy Lopez, which was super fun. To meet Adam Sandler and just be part of that whole experience kind of stepping outside my comfort zone was a lot of fun, and I’m super grateful I was part of it.”

Happy Gilmore 2 sees the return of the original film’s writers, Sandler and Tim Herlihy, with Kyle Newacheck at the helm as director, known for his collaboration with Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in the 2019 Netflix hit Murder Mystery.

It will be interesting to see what Korda’s role is when the film comes out. Happy Gilmore 2 will be exclusively available on Netflix from July 26.

Meanwhile, Korda is looking to bounce back after agonizingly missing out on the U.S. Open earlier this month. The 26-year-old had to settle for second place behind Maja Stark at Erin Hills after dropped shots in the final round ruined her chances at a third major title.

“Just an absolute heartbreaker,” Korda said immediately after her runner-up finish. “But that’s golf.”

Korda has targeted the Open as one of her goals since making her major championship debut in the tournament at the age of 14 in 2013. She’s ready to turn the page and move forward toward major success, starting this weekend at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at PGA Frisco in Texas.

“It just makes you hungrier,” Korda added. “For me, I hate making mistakes; obviously I love winning.

“You don’t get to win often, but there’s nothing like it being in contention, so I think that’s kind of what makes me hungrier to come back and to work harder and put myself into that position.

“You can look at it in a positive way, you can look at it in a negative way, but at the end of the day, three weeks after, I can spin it in a positive way, and it’s going to make me hopefully hungrier.”
