Charlie Woods had an impressive showing at TPC Sawgrass, nailing a hole-in-one at the same course that Rory McIlroy celebrated his Players Championship win earlier in the year.

Woods was competing at the Junior Players Championship and came into the weekend struggling, carding a four-over 76 to end the first round T38. With the budding star stuggling, he needed a strong outing to salvage his tournament and that he did, shooting an even-par 72 in the final round.

And though he finished T31, Woods still had a moment that left fans ecstatic after seeing the teenager’s impressive body transformation as he continues to show glimpses of the star power that lies underneath.

As the 16-year-old competed in the Junior Players, one of the most prestigious events on the calendar, Woods was preparing to have a strong outing on the par-3 third hole. Cameras spotted the teenager swinging his club with gusto, tracking his ball as it landed on the green.

After a few seconds of silence, those tracking the ball on the other side began to celebrate loudly. It took a moment for the moment to register for Woods, who was congratulated by his fellow golfers as the crowd on hand began to share their excitement with the teenager.

The American Junior Golf Association posted a video of the star walking to the hole to pick up his ball as fans clapped for the son of one of the biggest golf stars in history. For Woods, it is clear that the ability is on the surface of exploding through, though the star has to put all the pieces together.

That, obviously, is easier said than done, as golf could be a very unforgiving and humbling sport. McIlroy knows that fact better than most, as he had to overcome a hard-charging J.J. Spaun in a playoff to win The Players Championship.

For his efforts, McIlroy won $4.5 million, but speaking to reporters, the Northern Irish star painted a different picture. In particular, the star revealed to reporters how close he was to letting his emotions take over as he came close to clinching the win over Spaun.

“Standing over that tee shot on 16 this morning is the most nervous I’ve been in a long time,” McIlroy said at the time to reporters.

“So feeling like that and being able to hit the shots that I needed, while your stomach is sort of not feeling great and your legs are a little shaky and your heart rate is racing…

“To have to go through that, it’s nice to have that in recent memory for some of the tournaments coming up.”

He added that the gravitas of playing at TPC Sawgrass almost got to him. “Every time we come back to this tournament, it gets bigger and better each and every year, from the course to the facilities for the players, to the facilities for the fans,” McIlroy continued.

“I don’t want to put any of sort of label on it but it is one of the biggest championships in the world. That was part of the reason.”
